Himalayan singing bowls (sometimes known as Tibetan Singing Bowls, Sound Bowls, Bronze Bowls, Metal Singing Bowls, Chakra Bowls, Golden Bowls, Meditation Bowls & Sound Healing Bowls) are known for the mystical, eerie sound they make when the rim is rubbed in a circular motion with a suede or wooden mallet It looks easy, but can sometimes prove harder than expected.

Have you tried and tried but never quite got your bowl to ‘sing’? Heres the thing, mine didnt for the first six months I had it. No matter what I tried

“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.”

Pablo Picasso

What even is ‘singing’ from a bowl all about?

“Winding.” “Singing.” “Playing in the feminine.” “Rubbing.” “Rimming.”
I’ve heard it called many things over the years.

Yes — there’s some scepticism in certain circles about whether this was even an original use of the bowls (they date back over 5,000 years) or whether it’s something that arrived in the West alongside all things yogi, helped along by the Beatles and their time with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the seventies.

But whatever its origins in modern practice, there’s no denying the very real healing opportunities that arise when a bowl produces that hypnotic, continuous “singing” tone. It can assist deep meditation, promote stillness, and — on a cellular level — support things like molecular alignment and cell cohesion. In other words, it’s definitely a thing.

It’s a beautiful thing

And its got a lot of healing potential swathed in mystery.

I like to think that maybe the winding of the bowl was what caused ancient llamas to attain astral planing - associated with super-high vibrational brain activity (GAMMA))

Is winding (‘singing’) a bowl healing anyway? The truth is you won’t know till you try!

I have bowls that are like marmite - some people love them when they sing, find they can acheive deep relaxation, meditation and one of my bowls is hugely effective at activating some people’s third eye. Other people describe the sound of winding as cacophonous and deeply unsetting - truth is that can be just as healing. When a sound is unpleasant to us - or creates tension or even pain in the body - it can be a sign of the body coming into cohesion or toxins being released - you’ll learn all about that on my courses
