3 reasons your singing bowl doesn’t sound like mine (and why that’s a good thing)

One of the most common things new sound healers say to me is, “I bought a singing bowl… but it doesn’t sound like yours.”The truth: is your Himalayan singing bowl shouldn’t sound like mine. And if it did, I’d be worried.

We’re naturally drawn to sounds that match or harmonise with our own frequency. Think of that moment when the hairs on your neck stand up during a piece of music—that’s resonance. Your perfect bowl is the one that stirs your energy in just the right way.

If your bowl doesn’t sound like mine, that’s brilliant. It means you’re developing your own sound signature—something that no YouTube tutorial can give you. The world doesn’t need another version of me; it needs your sound.

01/ Every singing bowl has its own voice

No two Himalayan singing bowls are identical. They’re handmade, often hammered and finished by different artisans, so even bowls that look the same will have their own unique tone, sustain, and overtones.

02/ You have your own sonic signature

We’re all vibrating energy. Every cell in your body is in motion, creating a frequency that’s uniquely yours. This “sonic signature” interacts with the bowl you’re playing, which is why certain tones feel more natural in your hands than others.

03/ Your technique shapes the sound

How you hold the bowl, the striker you use, the speed and pressure of your playing—it all changes the sound. The same bowl will sound different in two people’s hands, which is why in my Himalayan singing bowl training I focus so much on refining technique.
